It's a once in an year show !!!!

Ok, there was lots of hype about this day, The Annual Day of MRCET. The preparations were intensive, and the arrangements were pretty much large scale ... and finally, the day we were waiting for loomed ahead. I got really nervous about the whole program. We had 2 songs ready to be played, but we were given more time.. so we practised 4-5 more songs and got ready. But by the time the show was ready, we were again cut down to 2 songs, (read, "lack of management"). The sound check was in vain, after an hour of checking we were asked to move off the stage and perform later. And then it started. I stepped out for a few minutes and by the time i was back, the princi's speech was underway. As always it was boring and filled with humourless, impractical, monotonous phrases. Some other guys were also boring but there was one man who really lightened the moods, and that was Mr MallaReddy. Kinda surprising to see him so enthusiastic. He had the humour, the variations and the words to catch people... one bitter humiliation is, the princi called out the winners of various competitions and the guys were marked with a Mr. and the girls were marked with Mrs. !!! .. shocking stuff really! People would have been wondering where the hell this guy learnt English ...

That was when i noticed that there were hardly any chairs to sit on. During the whole program, i sat on the chair for about 45 sec.. immediately after the speeches, the refreshments came, but we never even saw what was given to the people, we were busy on our sound checks again. The night's DJ Shweth kinda got restless seeing the acoustic guitar. He was not ready to place a mic in front of the guitar. It's true that there will be a booming noise, but if it is kept far enough, nothing will happen... but he was very cautious about his JBL equipment and his reputation for noiseless, and flawless music. Sadly, our equipment was pretty much the opposite. The acoustic's pickup was bad (evidently), and my guitar was too old and the Zoom 505II wsa also having backgrund noise. We needed many mics for the drums and other stuff, and that delayed it more. Somehow, time was rumming fast and we were not yet moving ahead. Finally, when everything was set, we kicked off, and before i could open my eyes again, it was over !! We play 2 songs and our outro and it went dreamlike.. we never knew when it started and when it ended. Once off the stage, life was back to normal. I heard we got pretty good applause. I dont know about that, coz my ears were blocked out, numb...

And then came the rest of the performances.. in all of them, i felt my frnd Sandeep Singh did a better job than the rest, though there were impressive performances by others as well. Overall, the whole thing took place better. We had no glitches atleast. Last time, there were fights and brawls and stuff, this time, it was less..

As for the DJ, ok, but i always expect more from these guys. They say they are DJ's but they hardly play around with the disks. They just fade one song into the other, that's all. I feel they must actually edit the song, add their stuff, mix tracks, hundred's of things to do.. but he was ok. Took enough care of our instrument sounds atleast ....

Ok, this is turning out to be a real long post. The pics might come later, but for now, its the end of the novel...
